Step 1 Create a Smooth Chord Progression in C# Minor

Begin by crafting a chord progression that conveys emotion but remains simple and repetitive to maintain the hypnotic feel. C# minor is a preferred key for its melancholic tone, fitting Brent Faiyaz's style perfectly. Use lush chords with seventh or ninth extensions to add sophistication and warmth.

Step 2 Incorporate Soulful Guitar Elements

Guitar plays a significant role in Brent Faiyaz type beats, often providing melodic hooks or rhythmic textures. Use clean electric guitar sounds with reverb and delay effects to enhance the atmospheric quality. Subtle fingerpicking or gentle strumming can add an organic feel, reminiscent of the "SNOWLINE" beat by prodbyoluwi.

Step 3 Program Laid-Back Drums with Emphasis on Groove

The drum patterns in Brent Faiyaz inspired beats are typically minimal yet groovy. Use soft kicks and crisp snares or claps with a swing feel to avoid rigidity. Adding hi-hats with light rolls and occasional open hats enriches the rhythm without overwhelming the mix. Keep the percussion balanced to maintain the beat’s emotional and relaxed flow.

Step 4 Use Atmospheric Pads and Analog Synth Presets

Complement the chords and guitar with atmospheric pads and analog synths to fill the sonic space and add depth. Prodbyoluwi offers free 20 Analog Lab presets which are ideal for this purpose. These elements should be subtle, enhancing the mood without dominating the arrangement.

Step 5 Mix for Warmth and Clarity

A Brent Faiyaz type beat requires a warm, clear mix to preserve the intimacy and emotional resonance. Use gentle compression, EQ to carve out space for each instrument, and reverb to create a cozy ambiance. Avoid heavy effects or overly bright sounds that might detract from the smooth vibe.
